Post-Ceremony Tips
Post-Ceremony Tips
Psychoactive experiences can be mentally and physically taxing. Here are some suggestions for caring for yourself after your ceremony.
Day Of
Ground yourself by lying in savasana on a yoga mat or the ground for 20 min.
If you are up for it, go for a walk outside, take part of that time to put your bare feet to the ground, really feeling with the soles of your feet.
Don’t worry about processing anything yet. Allow the rest of the day to be for nourishing your body, and resting your mind and body.
Continue to hydrate. Try to eat something, even if you’re not hungry. Avoid greasy and heavy foods.
Take a shower, mindfully cleaning and connecting to each part of the body, exfoliating with a loofah or towel. Perhaps take an epsom salt bath to detox.
The Day After
If possible, take the day off from your usual responsibilities to continue to rest and process.
Have a full glass of water with a squeeze of lemon upon awakening (this activates your digestive system).
Consider taking the following supplements for a week to support your recovery and to provide a brain boost:
Magnesium (important for brain and nervous system health, sleep)
Omega 3 (helpful for brain health, depression, skin issues)
Lion’s Mane (a neurogenerative and neuroprotetective adaptogenic mushroom)
Ashwagandha (helps with nerves and sleep, reduces inflammation)
Meditate.
Do some movement, such as vinyasa yoga sun salutations or gentle stretching.
Go outside for a walk. If it is morning, look in the direction of the sun to get the light in your eyes (not looking directly at the sun). This sets your circadian rhythm for the night.
Journal: write down everything you can remember from your ceremony. You may even want to listen to the ceremony playlist while journaling- this can bring you back to the experience and help you recall.
If you have any insights during the day and in the coming weeks, write them in your journal.
